1. Acceptance and invitations

These terms govern your use of the websites, web applications, telemetry tools, and any associated devices (the “platform”) provided by Luce Foundation (“Luce,” “we,” “us”). Access is by invitation only. By using the platform you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 and have received an invitation from us. Invitations are personal and cannot be sold or transferred.

3. An experimental platform, not medical care

The platform is experimental and is designed for cognitive practice, skill acquisition, and mental model exploration. The software, web applications, telemetry tools, and associated hardware devices provided by Luce are not medical devices, nor are they intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition or cognitive impairment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional regarding medical or mental health concerns.

We do not promise any particular result. Our research into cognitive improvement and healthy cognitive aging is ongoing, and individual outcomes vary.

The research directions described on our website, including our Master Plan, are goals under investigation. They are not promises, and we do not claim any health benefit from them. Any study involving health conditions would require separate informed consent and appropriate oversight.

5. Research participation and your data

We use the data provided through our platform for research and to further improve our mission. By using the platform, you agree to this use, as described in our Privacy Policy.

You grant Luce a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, analyze, and share, in de-identified or aggregated form, the data you provide or generate through the platform (such as responses, response times, progress, and notes) to conduct research, develop and validate measurement tools, improve the platform, and advance our mission. We handle personal information as set out in the Privacy Policy and will not publish information that identifies you without your permission.

7. Ownership

Luce and its licensors own the platform, including its software, content, designs, and trademarks. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use it for your own learning. You keep ownership of the notes and reflections you write, subject to the license in section 5. If you send us feedback, we may use it freely to improve our work.

8. Disclaimers

The platform is provided “as is” and “as available,” in beta, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Features may change, be interrupted, or be withdrawn. Content is educational and is not professional, medical, legal, or financial advice.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Luce and its directors, staff, and volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or opportunities, arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability for any claim relating to the platform will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the past twelve months or $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

10. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the platform and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms, put the platform or others at risk, or if we change or discontinue the platform. Sections that by their nature should survive, including sections 5, 7, 8, and 9, will survive.
